Ductape
Ductape ist ein türkisches Post-Punk- und Darkwave-Duo aus Istanbul, das 2019 von Çağla Güleray und Furkan Güleray gegründet wurde. Mit ihrer Mischung aus Post-Punk, Darkwave, Coldwave und Gothic Rock haben sie sich innerhalb weniger Jahre einen festen Platz in der internationalen Darkwave-Szene erspielt.
Musikalisch verbindet Ductape dunkle Gitarren, treibende Basslinien, pulsierende Drums und atmosphärische Synthesizer mit dem charakteristischen Gesang von Çağla Güleray. Dabei entsteht ein Sound, der stark an die klassische Wave-Ästhetik der 1980er-Jahre erinnert, aber keineswegs wie eine reine Kopie der Vergangenheit klingt. Ductape nehmen diese Einflüsse auf und entwickeln daraus ihren eigenen, modernen und sehr atmosphärischen Stil.
Hinter Ductape stehen Çağla und Furkan Güleray. Çağla übernimmt Gesang und Synthesizer, während Furkan für Gitarre, Bass und Schlagzeug verantwortlich ist. Gemeinsam schreiben und produzieren sie ihre Musik und bilden damit den kreativen Kern des Projekts.
Bereits die erste EP „Little Monsters“ aus dem Jahr 2020 zeigte deutlich, wohin die musikalische Reise gehen sollte. Die Songs waren tief im Post-Punk verwurzelt und verbanden treibende Rhythmen mit düsteren Gitarren und einer intensiven Gesangsperformance. Mit „Wooden Girl“ setzte die Band außerdem ein deutliches Zeichen gegen häusliche Gewalt und Femizid. Ductape zeigen damit früh, dass ihre Musik nicht nur Atmosphäre schaffen, sondern auch gesellschaftliche Themen ansprechen kann.
2021 erschien mit „Labirent“ das erste Album der Band. Der türkische Titel bedeutet „Labyrinth“ und passt hervorragend zur Atmosphäre der Platte. Ductape erweiterten ihren Sound und bewegten sich stärker in Richtung Darkwave und Coldwave. Die Musik wurde atmosphärischer und teilweise minimalistischer, verlor dabei aber nie ihre Intensität. Neben englischen Texten tauchten hier auch zunehmend türkische Songs auf.
Mit „Ruh“ folgte 2022 ein weiteres wichtiges Album. Der Titel lässt sich mit „Seele“ beziehungsweise „Geist“ übersetzen und beschreibt ziemlich gut die emotionale Grundstimmung der Veröffentlichung. Kalte Synthesizer, druckvolle Gitarren und treibende Rhythmen treffen auf einen Gesang, der gleichzeitig distanziert und sehr emotional wirkt.
Songs wie „Sinners“, „Never“, „Kesik“, „Hatırla“, „Fire“, „Gregor“, „Sevmiyor“ und „Sorular“ zeigen die unterschiedlichen Facetten der Band. Besonders interessant ist dabei der Wechsel zwischen englischer und türkischer Sprache. Dadurch bekommt Ductape eine eigene Identität, die sich deutlich von vielen westlichen Darkwave-Produktionen unterscheidet.
2024 folgte „Echo Drama“, mit dem Ductape ihren Sound erneut weiterentwickelten. Die Songs wirken noch atmosphärischer und teilweise fast cineastisch. Post-Punk und Darkwave bleiben die Grundlage, werden aber mit einer stärkeren elektronischen und emotionalen Tiefe verbunden. Besonders die Zusammenarbeit mit She Past Away bei „Ölüm Günüm“ unterstreicht die Verbindung zur internationalen Darkwave-Szene.
Auch live hat sich Ductape zu einer interessanten Größe entwickelt. Aus den ersten Auftritten in der Türkei entstand eine immer größere internationale Präsenz. Ihre Musik funktioniert auf der Bühne besonders gut, weil die Kombination aus treibenden Rhythmen, dunklen Gitarren, Synthesizern und Çağla Gülerays Stimme eine intensive Atmosphäre erzeugt.
2025 wurde „Echo Drama“ noch einmal als Deluxe-Version veröffentlicht und um weiteres Material ergänzt. Gleichzeitig erschienen weitere Singles, mit denen Ductape ihren musikalischen Weg konsequent fortsetzten. Dabei wurde deutlich, dass sich das Duo immer stärker in Richtung eines atmosphärischen, modernen Darkwave-Sounds bewegt.
2026 meldete sich Ductape mit „Obscure“ zurück. Gleichzeitig wurde das neue Album „Faded Flowers“ angekündigt. Inhaltlich beschäftigt sich die neue Musik mit emotionaler Erschöpfung, Isolation, Entfremdung und dem Gefühl, dass Menschen in einer zunehmend künstlichen und distanzierten Welt den Kontakt zueinander verlieren.
Schon die bisherigen Titel des neuen Materials – darunter „Figures“, „Fine“, „Obscure“, „Gölgesiz“, „Velvet Dawn“, „Burn“, „D.E.R.T.“, „Sad Gravity“ und „Last Dance“ – lassen eine noch dunklere und atmosphärischere Seite von Ductape erkennen.
Was Ductape für mich besonders interessant macht, ist die Balance zwischen Melancholie und Energie. Ihre Musik ist dunkel, aber niemals leblos. Sie kann traurig und nachdenklich wirken und gleichzeitig unglaublich tanzbar sein. Genau diese Verbindung macht Ductape sowohl für den Kopfhörer als auch für den dunklen Clubfloor interessant.
Dabei gelingt es dem Duo, klassische Post-Punk- und Darkwave-Elemente mit einer modernen Produktion zu verbinden, ohne seine eigene Identität zu verlieren. Besonders die türkischen Texte geben der Musik eine zusätzliche emotionale und kulturelle Ebene.
Ductape zeigen eindrucksvoll, dass die heutige Darkwave-Szene längst international geworden ist. Aus Istanbul kommend, haben Çağla und Furkan Güleray einen Sound entwickelt, der weltweit funktioniert und trotzdem seine eigene Herkunft und Persönlichkeit nicht verleugnet.

Ductape is a Turkish post-punk and darkwave duo from Istanbul, founded in 2019 by Çağla Güleray and Furkan Güleray. Within just a few years, they have established themselves as a distinctive presence in the international darkwave scene, combining post-punk, darkwave, coldwave, and gothic rock into a sound that feels both rooted in tradition and unmistakably contemporary.
Musically, Ductape combine dark guitars, driving basslines, pulsating drums, and atmospheric synthesizers with Çağla Güleray's distinctive vocals. Their music carries a strong connection to the classic wave aesthetics of the 1980s, but it never feels like a simple reproduction of the past. Instead, Ductape take these influences and transform them into their own modern and highly atmospheric sound.
At the heart of Ductape are Çağla and Furkan Güleray. Çağla handles vocals and synthesizers, while Furkan is responsible for guitar, bass, and drums. Together, they write and produce their music, creating a remarkably focused artistic identity.
Their first EP, Little Monsters, released in 2020, already showed the musical direction the duo wanted to take. The songs were deeply rooted in post-punk, combining driving rhythms with dark guitars and an intense vocal performance. With “Wooden Girl,” the band also addressed domestic violence and femicide, demonstrating early on that their music is not only about creating atmosphere but can also confront serious social issues.
In 2021, Ductape released their first full-length album, Labirent. The Turkish title translates as “Labyrinth” and perfectly captures the atmosphere of the record. The band expanded their sound further toward darkwave and coldwave, creating music that became more atmospheric and sometimes more minimalist without losing its intensity. Alongside English lyrics, Turkish-language songs also became increasingly important.
The 2022 album Ruh marked another significant step in the band's development. The title can be translated as “Soul” or “Spirit,” which reflects much of the emotional character of the record. Cold synthesizers, powerful guitars, and driving rhythms meet vocals that can sound both distant and deeply emotional.
Tracks such as “Sinners,” “Never,” “Kesik,” “Hatırla,” “Fire,” “Gregor,” “Sevmiyor,” and “Sorular” demonstrate the different sides of Ductape. Their use of both English and Turkish is particularly interesting and gives the duo an identity that clearly distinguishes them from many Western darkwave productions.
With Echo Drama in 2024, Ductape developed their sound even further. The songs became more atmospheric and, at times, almost cinematic. Post-punk and darkwave remain at the foundation, but they are combined with greater electronic depth and emotional intensity. The collaboration with She Past Away on “Ölüm Günüm” also highlighted Ductape's close connection with the international darkwave community.
Ductape have also developed into a compelling live act. What began with performances in Turkey gradually developed into a growing international presence. Their music works particularly well on stage, where the combination of driving rhythms, dark guitars, synthesizers, and Çağla Güleray's voice creates an intense and immersive atmosphere.
In 2025, Echo Drama was revisited in a deluxe edition with additional material, while further singles continued to expand the band's musical direction. Their more recent work shows an increasing focus on atmospheric and contemporary darkwave while retaining the post-punk foundation that has always been central to their identity.
In 2026, Ductape returned with “Obscure” while also preparing their next album, Faded Flowers. The new material explores themes of emotional exhaustion, isolation, alienation, and the feeling that human connections are gradually disappearing in an increasingly artificial and disconnected world.
Titles such as “Figures,” “Fine,” “Obscure,” “Gölgesiz,” “Velvet Dawn,” “Burn,” “D.E.R.T.,” “Sad Gravity,” and “Last Dance” suggest an even darker and more atmospheric direction for Ductape.
What I find particularly interesting about Ductape is their balance between melancholy and energy. Their music is dark without ever feeling lifeless. It can be sad and introspective while remaining incredibly danceable. That combination makes Ductape equally effective for late-night headphone listening and for a dark club floor.
The duo manages to combine classic post-punk and darkwave elements with contemporary production without losing its own identity. The use of Turkish lyrics adds another emotional and cultural dimension to the music and gives Ductape a character that is difficult to replicate.
